The Horrors of WW1

This soldier was killed by musterd gas.

There were made tragedies that happened throughout World War 1. Many soldiers died from these horrors of fighting for what they wanted.

One specific way to die in WW1 was from musterd gas.  The gas not only burned his lungs and intoxicated him, but also tore his skin apart.  Poison gas was probably the most feared of all weapons during  World War One. Poison gas could be used on the trenches even when no attack was going on. Where the machine gun killed more soldiers overall during the war, death was usually instant and soldiers could find shelter in bomb/shell craters from gunfire. During a poison gas attack soldiers would have to put on gas masks and if they were unsuccessful, the gas could leave a soldier in pain for days and weeks before they finally died from their injuries.

Trench wars.  Probably one of the worst things I went through during the war.  This picture above is of myself and my closest friend Scott.  We woke up that morning by our leader telling us "Get your asses in gear!"  We immediately put on our uniforms, grabbed our guns and headed out.  Not knowing what we would be facing that day, we just focused on walking and looking out for the enemies.  I guess our leader must have seen or heard something suspicious, so he yelled at us to get in the nearest trench.  Scott and I always were taught that if one of us goes down to be there for them.  Next thing I knew Scott had been shot in the chest.  I checked his pulse and there was nothing. My best friend had died and I couldn't have done anything to prevent it.  I sit there, in the filthy, muddy trench thinking. Thinking about this war, and how much more I could take of it.
